Scott Rohloff – Photographer

Scott Rohloff is our go to guy. If there is a way to shoot it, he’ll find it. A long time member of the Mecca of Speed, there is no better way to learn about his work and approach to photography then from the man himself.

Mecca of Speed: When did you know photography was more then a hobby?

Scott Rohloff: When I realized I had put away my other hobbies and focused all my time and money on photography. Then I had to get a tax I.D. number.

Mecca of Speed: How long have you been shooting motorsports?

Scott Rohloff: I have photos from the early 90’s, but have been shooting seriously since 2005.

Mecca of Speed: What other photography do you do outside of motorsports?

Scott Rohloff: Youth sports mostly, but I’ve been expanding the studio for product shoots, and I am going to start doing portraits as well.

Mecca of Speed: Who or what influences your work?

Scott Rohloff: My kids are the force behind my work in youth sports. Making some kids mom happy because I got an awesome shot of her player helps too. As for motorsports, just being at the track and taking in all the sights and smells of the cars is enough to get me motivated.

Mecca of Speed: Do you have any interesting stories from your experiences shooting?

Scott Rohloff: I was shooting at the Las Vegas Motor speedway, and passed the grand stands walking to my spot. As I was walking I heard “hey photographer dude!” I look up and see a fan grabbing a certain part of his body and yelling, “ Hey photographer dude, take a picture of this!”  I just shook my head and kept walking.

Mecca of Speed: Does your personality or view of the world change when you pickup a camera?

Scott Rohloff: I find that I stop being a fan when I pickup the camera. If I am shooting my kids events I become neutral.

Mecca of Speed: What are some of the obstacles you have had to overcome as a photographer?

Scott Rohloff: Finding a way to balance my kids sporting event with the motorsport events I’m requested to cover.
