About The Car

Legendary Penske Lola makes a return to Road America, where it raced in the first ever Can Am race in 1967. Patrick Hogan brought his 1967 Lola T70 Spyder from Littleton, Colorado to compete in the 2008 Kohler International Challenge.

Along with competing on the track, Hogan entered the car in the concourse competition. Hogan made the trip to the Kohler International Challenge in honor of the Lola 50th Anniversary, which took place this year, and also for the enjoyment of driving the Road America circuit.

History of the Car

This Lola one of only five built in the world. Roger Penske originally ordered the car in preparation for the 1967 Can Am season. The car was driven that season by Mark Donahue and finished the season in 4th place overall.

After the completion of the 1967 season, Roger Penske sold the car to Carol Shelby who hired Peter Revson to drive the car. Shelby was using the car to find out which engine would be the best to compete against the McLarens.

Later the car was later sold to Charlie and Kerry Agapiou who campaigned the Lola in the 1968 Can Am season. Due to a lack of funding, the season ended with the car finishing 7th overall.

The car also was also raced at the first ever Mt. Fuji Can Am race.

In 1996 the car was restored to its original livery and has been raced at many international vintage events.

Patrick on the Road America Circuit

“This is the perfect track for Can Am cars. It’s long and fast and these cars do well here. The power to weight ratio really comes out when the car is on the track. Road America is a really fun track to drive.”

Road & Track Concourse

Patrick’s Lola won first place in Friday night’s concourse that took place in historic downtown Elkhart Lake. On Sunday, after all the fan voting was tabulated, it was announced that Patrick’s Lola was the best of show for the 2008 Kohler international Challenge at Road America.

Patrick’s Favorite Feature of the Car

“I always loved the lines of the T70, and thought that they were one of the prettiest racecars of all time. The best feature of the car is its provenance. It’s a really historic car, Roger Penske and Carol Shelby both owned it, and many legendary drivers have driven this car. ”
